Primary Purpose:

The Dyslexia Coordinator/ARD Facilitator will facilitate the planning and implementation of the district dyslexia program by: ensuring proper screening, testing, and identification of students with dyslexia; overseeing the effectiveness of the district dyslexia program; providing training to dyslexia instruction providers and classroom teachers; developing, monitoring, and reporting IEP goals for students with dyslexia; monitoring and facilitating the transition of students with dyslexia between district campuses; and supporting the special education department with the facilitation of ARD meetings. The Dyslexia Coordinator/ARD Facilitator will report to the Special Education Director.

 

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

    Special Education Certification

    Diagnostician Certification

    Master’s degree from accredited university preferred

    Valid Texas teaching certificate

 

Special Knowledge/Skills:

    Knowledge of dyslexia and intervention practices

    Reading by Design program training preferred

    Ability to develop and deliver training to adult learners

    Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

 

Experience:

    5 years teaching experience in dyslexia instruction preferred

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Staff Development

  1. Provide training to teachers, dyslexia service providers, and other appropriate district staff on dyslexia best practices.
  2. Ensure required annual dyslexia training is completed by staff and maintain all necessary records.
  3. Facilitate the training of dyslexia service providers in the district dyslexia program.
  4. Serve as a resource in identifying appropriate instructional strategies and interventions to improve student achievement.

Instructional and Program Coordination

  1. Facilitate the processes for screening, testing, and identification of students with dyslexia.
  2. Assist in the collection of data, especially qualitative data, as part of the multidisciplinary team completing a Full and Individual Evaluation (FIE) which includes a dyslexia evaluation for students referred for testing.
  3. Aid in developing individualized education plans for students with dyslexia and assist with their successful implementation.
  4. Assist dyslexia service providers with program implementation and record keeping.
  5. Facilitate the successful transition of students with dyslexia between campuses.
  6. Provide monitoring support to dyslexia students who are not currently receiving direct dyslexia instruction as outlined in IEPs and 504 plans.
  7. Provide instruction to students with dyslexia in the district’s identified specialized instruction program when necessary.
  8. Facilitate all ARDs for students in special education with dyslexia to ensure that all required components are appropriately addressed and documented, including reviews of existing evaluation data.
  9. Provide feedback for and serve in 504 meetings for students with dyslexia as necessary.
  10. Maintain systematic communication between special and general education personnel and dyslexia service providers with respect to ARD and 504 meetings and decisions, IEPs, student accommodations, and instructional concerns and progress.
  11. Maintain all records related to the district dyslexia program.
  12. Evaluate the effectiveness of the district dyslexia program and make recommendations related to its continuous improvement.
  13. Debrief with Special Education Director and campus instructional leaders as appropriate about possible actions that could be taken to improve dyslexia program instruction and implementation.
  14. Facilitate, along with the Special Education Director, dyslexia team meetings to improve program communication and effectiveness.

Leadership

  1. Provide progress and interim reports as required.
  2. Train teachers in critical components of dyslexia instruction.

Other

  1. Aid the Special Education Department in the facilitation of ARD meetings.
  2. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  3. Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and local board policy.
  4. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  5. Perform other tasks as may be assigned by supervisor(s).
